How UK PayPal fees work
UK business accounts pay a percentage plus a fixed fee in pounds. The percentage rises by 1.29% when the payer is elsewhere in the EEA and by 1.99% for payers in any other market; the surcharge is not applied to alternative payment methods. There is no separate invoicing table in the UK: a payment requested through an invoice is a commercial transaction and pays the commercial rate.
| Payment type (UK payer) | Fee |
|---|---|
| Standard commercial payment | 2.9% + £0.30 |
| Card payment from a payer without a PayPal account | 1.2% + £0.30 |
| QR code, £10.01 and above | 1.5% + £0.10 |
| QR code, £10.00 and below | 2% + £0.05 |
| Buy now, pay later (excluding PayPal Credit) | 3.9% + fixed fee |
| Charity (pre-approved) | 1.4% + £0.20 |
| Micropayments under £5 (by approval) | 5% + £0.05 domestic; 6% + £0.05 international |
| EEA payer / other international payer | +1.29% / +1.99% |
Worked example
A German buyer pays £80.00 for a jacket. The standard 2.9% becomes 4.19% with the EEA surcharge: £3.35, plus £0.30, so £3.65 in fees and £76.35 received. A UK buyer paying the same amount would cost £2.62.
